Osaki Dam Park

Blooms and koinobori in spring at this photogenic park

Springtime in Niigata's snow country is something worth celebrating, especially when the flowers and trees begin to bloom. One of the loveliest places to enjoy the color of the season is the Osaki Dam Park, where you'll find cherry blossoms, azaleas, daffodils and more.

If you visit in May around Children's Day, you'll also get to enjoy the koinobori hung up over the water. Koinobori are flags in the shape of carp, hung to honor children and encourage their growth, health, and prosperous futures. The park here is a tranquil spot where you can enjoy the surroundings without battling large crowds.

Getting there

To reach Osaki Dam Park via public transportation, head to Muikamachi Station, serviced by the JR Joetsu or Hoku-Hoku lines. From there, take the Urasa Line Bus bound for Hakkaisan Iriguchi (stop number MU27). The park is approximately a twenty minute walk from the bus stop.

If you're headed there via private vehicle, free parking is available on-site.
