Made famous by its recent appearance in the James Bond film "Skyfall," Gunkanjima (also known as Hashima – 軍艦島 / 端島) is an abandoned island that once played a major role in the industrialization of Japan. It was initially the location of an underwater coal mine, when forced labour was prominent before and during the Second World War, but nowadays is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Opened as a tourist attraction in 2009, there are currently various boat tours available departing from Nagasaki City. While the island is not open for exploration, you are permitted to step foot on the island in the designated viewing area.

Located in Saikai National Park, Sasebo City, Kujuku-Shima Pearl Sea Resort (九十九島パールシーリゾート) is an amusement park that houses an aquarium, a shopping mall, a hotel, and a marina. Ocean lovers can happily spend a day or two making the most of the natural beauty of the Kujuku Islands surrounding the resort on the many cruise options on offer. There are also plenty of other entertainment and shopping opportunities available.
